Pins for Clevises - Rod Bracing
Pins for Clevises - Rod Bracing
(OP)
I haven't designed rod bracing but the situation seems to present itself, so here it goes. I have a couple of questions.
What do you you use for pins for clevises for rod bracing? Bolts, rods? How do you detail a rod so that it doesn't slide out horizontally perpendicular to the gusset? Are there any special detailing requirements or just detailing tips I should be aware of?
Since a rod is not high strength, the Chapter J equations for HS bolts don't apply correct? Would shear be 0.4Fy?
Is the plural of clevis, clevii? ;)

For shear in the clevis pin, round bar stock, the old allowable stress codes used to allow 0.40 Fy. You'll want to call for a 1/16" chamfer at the edge of the pin.
