High Point Load on Roof Deck

High Point Load on Roof Deck

High Point Load on Roof Deck

We have a situation where high point loads have to be supported by roof deck. I am proposing number of steel members but it looks crouded. Is it possible for roof deck to support point load of 4000 lbs every 5ft spacing. These are chilled water filled pipes.

Here is link to the pipe support system for idea.

RE: High Point Load on Roof Deck

I doubt that 1.5"  22 ga metal roof deck can support that kind of load.

Why not locate the legs directly over the supporting roof members? If you are running parallel to the supporting members that space your supports to sit directly over the supporting roof members. You still may have to put blocks in the flutes to keep the deck from crushing.

RE: High Point Load on Roof Deck

How about putting a beam that will span with the pipe above the roof?  Maybe put a support somewhere where needed.

Thanks.

We can negotiate for prefab pipe support to located at framing member. Only concern is local crushing of steel deck as the base of pipe support is 18"X18" in size and wood blocking can help in this regards below the deck. How to load 18"x18" base. Does rigid insulation can help in this case above the deck.

RE: High Point Load on Roof Deck

You need to cut it through and seal around it.

Or use a non-shrink grout above and under the deck, and above the lower support.  You may need an extra steel plate above the lower supportto support the grout layer.

Still sounds like a lot more work than just adding in the extra steel beams.

I think it is better to have extra members under each pipe support leg and make things easy. Thanks all for your suggestions.
