Trench and Natural Backfill

(OP)
On a recent project we said to the client that we plan to trench an umbilical but leave it to naturally backfill, i have been asked to confirm that the  wave and current data supports the natural backfill. has this been addressed in any standards? or does anyone know of any papers written regarding this? thanks

RE: Trench and Natural Backfill

This is partially addressed in DnVRPF109, the code for pipeline stability. Refer para 4.4 for seabed movement.

You could also refer Shore protection manual for sheild's criteria.
