Odd Question

Odd Question

Odd Question

(OP)
Hello everyone. I am from hungary and I am working for a company who is servicing fork lifts. I do not want to waste your time so I will try to be quick.

The problem is I am not a native english speaker so I have a lot of problem define the problems. That is why I am asking your help. I can not define the following problems:

"short to battery" or "short to ground"

for example: "The pin indicating battery voltage has short circuit to a switched battery source."

I am just wondering is there a chance that someone can teach me or explain it to me or give me a link or recommend a book where I could learn this specific language.

If it is not possible then I sorry to waste your time.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards,

András

I see your problem.. That is a line of garbage!  Beats me what it really means.  It could mean many things.

Do not underrate your understanding of English it seems pretty dang good to me.

If you want to get better at it read some books. Read technical magazines too.  Otherwise I would try to find manuals that are legible.

RE: Odd Question

My best guess is this:
"The pin indicating battery voltage..." = the wire (or the connector pin the wire is attached to) that will have the system voltage level on it.

"...has short circuit to a switched battery source." = should be connected to a battery that can be disconnected by a switch, but the switch (or some other part of the system) has failed as a short circuit (possibly to ground).

Essentially, when a specific point in the system is measured, it should show battery voltage or open, depending upon the position of a switch.  The statement above makes it appear a short has been created so the position of the switch does not change the voltage at this measuring point, it is always at the battery's voltage.

Your English seems quite good, so I imagine it was the poor English of the statement that was causing you the problem.

RE: Odd Question

Was the instruction book printed in a non English speaking country?

Thanks for the replies.

Well that was from the manual. And if I know well it was printed in UK. All of the manual is full with instructions like this. To be honestly I have quite a big problem to get this. But I must admit the electrical circuit is way out of my league. Probably that is the main reason to get it so hard.

RE: Odd Question

Can you scan this manual and upload it to a filehost? Maybe one of us can help translate it in to English. The engineering.com host is free and easy to use - the link is below.
