What is the best way to figure out the position of a gas strut on the inside of a carcuss? i.e the position of the two ball hinges that connect the Gas Strut.

RE: Gas Struts/Springs placing

Years ago I did this for a wireline spooler application for an oilfield company.  I simply modelled it in AutoCad and varied the position of the sub component equipment based on the wireline tension.  This output was used to check my computations for the geometry model.

You can also apply the methods of three-four bar linkages to come up with the same result, then model that in some software package to validate your computations.  Same-same as what I did.

Good luck with it.
