Parking garage ramp design

Parking garage ramp design

Parking garage ramp design

(OP)
Hi everyone,

Are there any textbooks, manuals, or guidelines that provide insight for proper ramp design (straight, helical, etc.) in multi-storey parking garages? I am not concerned with the detailed structural aspect, but rather its general design, such as slope, turning radius, height clearance, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

That sounds like architect's job  smile

Never, but never question engineer's judgement

RE: Parking garage ramp design

All types of guides, each model specific.  Ask owner what type of vehicle to include and to exclude.  Common practice is to design to largest allowed vehicle and restrict entry to all larger types.  Many parking structures are designed for compact and sub-compact only for revenue maximization.  Pickups, vans and full size sedans are then required to use grade level parking only.

RE: Parking garage ramp design

practically speaking, any vehicle that can fit through the entry may try to get into the ramp/garage.  Unless you have a guard on duty 24-7, nothing can stop them from trying.  so better to design for full size rather than compact only
