MV/LV terminology

MV/LV terminology

MV/LV terminology

(OP)
Hi again all,

I am designing an LV system with multiple 11/0.4kV transformers feeding multiple distrbution switchboards on the site.

I am used to one transformer and hence calling the cable from the TF to the dist. switchboard the 'consumer's mains' and the dist. switchboard the 'main switch board'

However when the power supply is taken at MV and reticulated to the multiple TFs is it still good practice to call the cable and distribution switchboard 'consumer's mains' and 'msb' respectively?

RE: MV/LV terminology

You can call the switchboards anything you want.  My suggestion, Distribution Switchboard A...B etc.(DSA, DSB...)
The cables from the xfmr to the swbd could be called secondary feeders.  From the voltages, I'm guessing you're in Europe.  Here in North America we don't really use "consumer's mains" as a term.

Actually instead of arcane names like LVDPB1C or H34B4, I've always wanted to give panelboards human names such as BOB, JOE, BILL etc. on my one-lines but figured owners would think it too silly.

I'm in Australia.

I don't agree about using human names because the name, if assigned well, actually says something about the board...

RE: MV/LV terminology

I was joking about the human names.
