Atmospheric Tank (designed per API standard)

Dear Colleagues,

When designing and constructing a new tank, who is generally responsible to develop/provide a strapping or capacity table?  Is this a responsibility of a tank manufacturer or a customer once the tank is turned over from a contractor to a customer?  Appreciate your feedback.

RE: Atmospheric Tank (designed per API standard)

I concur with sshep.  Most strapping tables, I've reviewed are stamped and certified by third party inspection companies like Caleb Brett. But there are many others.

Thanks for your feedback.  It seems that the table is not generally prepared by the tank manufacturer.

RE: Atmospheric Tank (designed per API standard)

It can be made by the tank manufacturer but the reliability can be doubtfull and that is why third party is used.

RE: Atmospheric Tank (designed per API standard)

Typical tankikes are ill equipped to provide strapping charts.  Most likely they would sub-contract it anyway.

RE: Atmospheric Tank (designed per API standard)

Ditto to the above.  Who furnishes it is a contractual matter.  Many tanks aren't strapped, so it is not an automatic assumption that one party or the other is to strap it.  If not mentioned in bid or contract documents, it would be assumed that it was not required.
