Mac os X CAD/CAM

Mac os X CAD/CAM

Hi,  Does anyone have any recommendations for Mac os X CAD / CAM software.  2D Trumpf Laser cutter.   If it puts out the g-code,  I can write the post processor.

Thanks,

Bill

RE: Mac os X CAD/CAM

You can run NX on a MAC but only by using either a Windows emulator or dual booting to a Windows O/S. Emulators are available for Linux only that the graphics suffer slightly, whereas for MAC I'm not so sure.

Generally Laser cutters take DXF files. Having your customers supply those to you may in all likelihood be a reasonable request. I know that we used to provide flat patterns out of NX to our sheet metal suppliers which system worked quite well because for flat folded parts NX does and excellent job of creating flat patterns.

I think ahlar vellum products run quite good on mac. However, the windows variants of the software have more options. Nx5 and catia v5 run well on mac pro (quadro graphics) with bootcamp (xp pro).

There are lots of good CAD programs for Mac,  its the CAM producing G-Codes that is missing.  Would rather not have XP in the house if possible.

RE: Mac os X CAD/CAM

NX5 is native on Mac OSX.
No windoze emulator needed.
