Any good basic training on drives and controls?

Any good basic training on drives and controls?

Any good basic training on drives and controls?

(OP)
I'm a new Facilities Engineer at a small facility.  I'm a Chemical Engineer by training with 7 years experience in the Food Industry but no experience with the electrical side of things.  I can see I'll need to get up to speed quickly and I was wondering if you can recommend any basic training sources, preferably online, for motor drives, PLC's, controls, basic electric and instrumentation 101.

Thanks

I took this course a few years ago and found it to be a very good starting point,

You can also try NTT, both of these companies do one and two day general type seminars on this topic.  Not as in depth as a manufactuer's course, but not any partcular brand sales pitch either.

American Trainco is a joke, ask for a resume for thier instructors, they wont be able to provide. They farm out every class to the cheapest inst they can find, usually the inst dosent know any more about the subject matter than what is in the presentation he was provided.

RE: Any good basic training on drives and controls?

Zogzog,

Sorry to hear you found American Trainco not up to par, in my former company we had used them for several years and had about an 80% favorable review by technicians who took their courses.  I also just took a class on using the Fluke Power Analyzer and found it interesting and helpful.

Will admit that NTT classes seemed a bit more in depth, but never really did find a technical training vendor who I would say provided 100% satisfaction.  Of course, many of our customers said the same thing about the classes we provided on our products.

One of my coworkers recently took the 3 day NTT class on drives and found it very helpful.

RE: Any good basic training on drives and controls?

It wasnt my experiance it was my customers, I did custom substation training courses for 15 years and had many clients who had taken thiers and were very disapointed with them, IMO 80% satisfaction is horrible, 99% should be the goal (You cant please everyone)I had American Trainco try to get me to teach some of thier classes, I looked at the material and declined, it was a joke.

NTT does some good courses.
