Concrete Pavement Thickness

Concrete Pavement Thickness

Concrete Pavement Thickness

(OP)
Is there a reference manual for determining the thickness of concrete when used for pavement? I have a client that would like to use concrete for his pavement.  The parking area is about 8,300 SF.

RE: Concrete Pavement Thickness

I've usually found pavement thickness to be established by the geotechnical report.  So much thickness based on heavy/light traffic, so much pavement base, so much sub-grade preparation (lime treatment or compaction)

What are your site soils like?  Are they clay materials that might experience a good deal of post construction movement.  Sand material that makes great sub-grade?

My guess is 6" of class C concrete, 3,500 min psi, #3 rft 8" O.C., with a scarafied subgrade compacted to 95% or lime treatment of top 8", will probably work just fine where ever you are.

Or, check with your local juristiction or state highway department.  They could tell you about the local standards, maybe even help you scrounge up an old as built where someone did have a geotech recommendation and built accordingly.

RE: Concrete Pavement Thickness

try this, there is a wealth of information online and available for minimal charge at PCA

Cars, tractor trailers, fork lifts?  Soil conditions?  Not enough information.  But use air entrainment if it's going to freeze.
