Is it common practice for building manufacturers to stamp, etch or even install a plate that lists the date and manufacturer's address? and if so, where should I look for this information? I am scheduled to review several flood damaged buildings and was informed that the plans and documentation were lost during the flood.

RE: pre-engineered buildings

We have noticed that sometimes there is a name plate or logo on the siding under the eave at the ridge.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

RE: pre-engineered buildings

If you're expecting to get anything from the manufacturer, good luck.  They "lose" everything right after the check clears.

RE: pre-engineered buildings

Most local contractors who deal in metal buildings can tell you which manufacturer produced a particular building.  Chances are they either built it or lost it to a competitor.  If they don't have first hand knowledge then a lot of them can tell by the flashing shape.  If you can determine the manufacturer and provide them with the location of the project, then most major manufacturers can probably provide you with the info that you need.  Unless the building is 20+ years old.
