standpipe system

(OP)
Hello
I've come to wonder for my proposal to design highrise sprinkler system what is two-zone standpipe system? Why would it necessary to zone stanpipes in highrise buildings? Would a
20 story office building need the zoned standpipe system? Any experienced answers would be appreciated.

RE: standpipe system

It would not have to be zoned, but it probably should since to reach the top floors you would need a pump.  But with a pump, the pressure at the lower floors would require PRV's which can be expensive, must be tested and maintained.

So you could have separate systems.

The lower floors could be off of city pressure and the upper floors off a fire pump.

Or you could have a fire pump on more than one floor - one to pump to the first 10 storeys and the second to pump to the upper 10 storeys.

RE: standpipe system

in large buildings in down town Chicago I have seen seperate pumps used for lower and higher floors
