SW memory dump & crash

SW memory dump & crash

SW memory dump & crash

(OP)
OK its not a full blown crash, more like a stall.
Im running 2008 SP3.1 on a nice machine with a quad core & 4Gb RAM

After the program has been running for a few hours SW will freeze itself up for 2-5 minutes when I try to save or click on the "file" menu. It usually comes back to life after this but once this issue starts it repeats until I finally reboot the whole machine (I've tried just shutting down SW and restarting but the issue comes right back)

The other clue that I have found is that SW is dumping its memory everytime this happens. According to the task manager it goes from its usual 300-500Mb all the way to zero then it slowly builds back up until it functions again.

Has anybody experienced anything like this? I have a feeling I am looking at an issue withe my network or my system but I thought I'd check to see if anyone else has run across this or if anybody had any tips on where to start.

RE: SW memory dump & crash

first idea: rule out the network, in other words if you only work locally (with all SolidWorks documents in the hard drive) does it still crash?

second idea: capture the crash with the Rx tool and send it to your reseller

third idea: make sure you have a certified driver for your video card as per the SolidWorks website (ensure that it is set to "SolidWorks" in the application settings)

hope this helps,
