Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

(OP)
Hey Guys-

This may be a very simple thing for you programmers, but I haven't been able to figure out how to customize the text that appears when you scroll over a file icon for Excel.

Normally, you scroll over the file and it gives you the Type of file, the size of the file and the date it was modified. Is there any way to customize that text so that I could, for example, list what I have done within the file?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

RE: Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

That's what the File|Properties menu selection does.

Perhaps it's my settings, but I had tried that before I posted, to no avail. None of these fields show up when I scroll over the file name.

RE: Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

If you go into explorer and right click at the top you can use the field chooser command to show any fields you want.

cvg-

I tried that and it does list the fields, but it only does so in explorer itself. I still can't get the pop-up box to say what I want it to

RE: Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

you are correct.  I don't know how to modify the contents of the pop up box.

I guess this topic is beneath you programmers to answer. :(

RE: Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

frv - my understanding is you didn't see the popup that crg saw

To get these in windows file explorer (Windows XP), got to file explorerer Tools menu, select options, select the "view" tab, and scroll down near the bottom to check the box labeled "Show popup description for folder and desktop items"

Then push Apply  (or Apply to all folders) and OK.

RE: Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

I guess I'm still confused why you're still having problems.  In Excel, goto the File|Properties menu selection and anything you enter into the Title, Author, Subject, or Comment fields will show up in the pop-up.

Right-click|Properties will display all the fields edited from inside Excel.

RE: Text Box When Scrolling Over Filename

You may want to hit F5 to refresh the screen. If you save comments or other properties, save the file, exit, and immediately hover over the icon, the new info may not appear.  However, once the screen is refreshed, that info will be there.
