Refrigerant side evaporator tube cleaning

Refrigerant side evaporator tube cleaning

Refrigerant side evaporator tube cleaning

(OP)
Hi,

Can anybody give me some ideas on refrigerant side tube cleaning. To give some details on the chiller, it was originally R11 1000 ton chiller, which was later converted to R123. We have had moisture issues in the refrigerant, now when I look to the evaporator sight glass its all cloudy with metal shaving lying at the bottom of the sight glass. The tubes look pretty fouled up on the outside. We want to run the chiller as its not been running for a few years now. All leak repairs were carried out and the chiller is pretty tight also the tubes were cleaned on both condenser and evaporator side. But due to the fouling my approach temp is very high due to which the chiller is shutting down on low evaporator pressure. I have run the chiller for over a week at 40% load without problems its only when I start increasing the loading it trips. One more thing the refrigerant charge is as per manufacturer's manual. Any suggestion is welcome, thanks in advance.

RE: Refrigerant side evaporator tube cleaning

Try Hudson Technologies for the cleanup. You'll need at least 2" fittings to connect to. Bet the cost is in the 20k to 30k range. This is not a cheap proposition.
