Is it possible to have the measure tool add up the length of line segments?

I figured I could do it by holding control and clicking multiple lines, but nothing seems to add the lengths.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Matthew

RE: measure tool

You have to click the horizontal arrow to the right of the lenth panel and choose add to accumulative and then at the end choose display accumulative. Then clear accumulative. Its designed in the usual Inventor way of making it as awkward as possible

I don't consider myself a stupid person, but this function seems almost impossible.

I have 2 straight lines. I click the first one, then click add accumulative and click the second line. Then click display accumulative?

I just tried that way, and it doesn't seem to work :(

RE: measure tool

It does work but it clumsy - it should be better.
The work around is to start a new 3D sketch and Include Geoemtry any 2D sketch or part edges.  Then use the Measure Loop tool (the loop doesn't have to be closed, only continuous).

RE: measure tool

I get very fed up with Inventor as my posts often reveal. Yes Inventor does everything that the other programs do but why do they have to make everything so bloody awkward. I do not want to go to Autodesk University to learn all the ins and outs of running a bit of software. My job (and degree) is to design. I need a cad package that lets me do this

RE: measure tool

This is how it works.
Pick measure tool, select first line, click add to accumulate, then right mouse click and pick restart, then pick second line, then click add to accumulate, then (if your done) pick display accumulate.

Yes its a completely retarded way to do such a simple task.

I am putting in a wishlist item/request to have it changed to work as follows.
pick measure tool, then pick accumulate, then just start picking lines and watch it magically add them up without all the extra add to accumulate or restart button clicks.

RE: measure tool

Have a star. We have sorted out the measure tool. At this rate by Inventor 2050 we will have a decent package.

Here is how it should work.

click one line and it gives the value. Hold contrl and click another line segment and it adds the two lengths together.

yes, by 2050, we should have a somewhat decent package

"No one should ever have to click add accumulate more then once in their life time"
