What is the best element type to use in modelling a pipe which undergoes tension, bending and torsion.

yes there are two contact surfaces one with soil and the othe a smooth surface.

So you do not need to define the mid wall contact surface.

Almost fogot, if you only intrested in studying the global respone, then PIPE31 or PIPE31H will be fine.
