(OP)
Hi,
In work we have a bright ideas scheme. I have an potential idea but want to back it up if needed. We have hundreds of compressed air operated valves and have wondered how much air these use to operate. Once the valve has done its job the stored air is just vented to atmosphere. Is there a system around to capture this waste air and reuse it. I have searched google but not to sure what to look for. Any help would be grateful. thanks

RE: recycling compressed air

Think of the physics behind your question and you'll be able to answer your own question.  HINT:  Delta Potential Energy (Hi Pressure - Low Pressure) = Work.

RE: recycling compressed air

..another point for discussion for your group. If 'hundreds of valves' are relatively small, relatively close together and relatively often operated, air will probably in a new constructed factory still be calculated as the best commercial/technical/economical solution over lifetime.

But nowadays an electrical solution will at least be evaluated and win more often than before against air as the most dependable/economical over lifetime. (Operating, maintenance and installment cost /divided by lifetime)

RE: recycling compressed air

A manufacturer in Australia has patenend this reuseable air idea google "the new inventors" its an ABC show that show cases new inventions you may find the manufacurer on there.
