EPRI Color Books

EPRI Color Books

EPRI Color Books

(OP)
I am curious if anyone actually own these books. I heard about them from a fellow engineer, and went to EPRI's website to check on obtaining one. Specifically I was interested in the Red Book. I soon came to learn that these books can range from $5,000 to $25,000.

This price certainly seems extremely high and I am wondering if there is some other way to obtain these books at a much cheaper price.

Does anyone have any thoughts or comments on this?

RE: EPRI Color Books

Is it EPRI or IEEE!

RE: EPRI Color Books

I think he means IEEE, Red book is $112-$161 depending on what you want and is an industrial EE must have. You should be able to talk your employer into buying these books for you. I have the whole color series and have for many revisions, IMHO they are a need, not a want.

RE: EPRI Color Books

EPRI has the Power Plant Electrical Reference Manual Series  (Volumes 1 - 17).

These have some great info.  Available to EPRI members.  Ridiculously pricey if you're not an EPRI member.

Any way to get them cheaper? Nope.

RE: EPRI Color Books

IEEE red book makes much more sense than the EPRI red book for someone in the mining field as the EPRI book deals with EHV transmission lines.

My thread weas referring to the EPRI Color Books NOT the IEEE Color Books. We have transmission lines at 230kV and 345kV.

RE: EPRI Color Books

Sorry, my bad, I am a EPRI member but dont have those books.

RE: EPRI Color Books

If the electric utility is an EPRI member, the books can be bought for a reasonable price.  My boss bought copies for our EE's but I don't remember how much they cost us.  If you count the millions per year we contribute to EPRI, then the price works out to be $200,000 per book.  I have heard that non EPRI members pay huge prices for the book.
