STL file conversion

STL file conversion

STL file conversion

(OP)
Hi, I have received an .stl file from a colleague in which he would like me to run a FloWorks analysis on.  My problem is that COSMOS will not recognize an STL file (my thought is that its not a nuber type file).

So my question is: can I convert the STL to another form that will be more compatible with solidworks, like an IGES file?

Thanks,
 PHIL

well, the solution was right under my nose.

all you have to do is go to open options and open it as a surface or solid

So I thought this was the solution, but even as surfaces FloWorks will not let me run an analysis on it, stating I need at least one component

What is the best way to go about running a FloWork analysis with an STL file?

RE: STL file conversion

Simple stl files can be stitched to a solid, but an stl is actually hundreds or thousands of faceted planar faces.  Why not request a STEP, IGES, ACIS or other format?

I will request a file of those types, although it comes from rhino which I am unfamiliar with.
