Anyone using Synergis Adept PDM?

Company is looking into it.  Wanted to see if anyone has opinions.

BTW, we currently operate out of 3 different states so I wanted to ask if anyone knows if Adept can be used like PDME.

RE: Anyone using Synergis Adept PDM?

We currently have been using it here for the last 1-1/2 years. It's the only PDM software I have ever used (15yrs in design)so I can't compare it to others but, it seems to work well for us. It has the usual quirks and anoyances like all software does. The search, copy and rename functions are huge time savers for us.
The only real major issue we have had is with the Adept viewer, it's made by a 3rd party and is always behind the rest of the program updates. We are still using SW2007 and can't upgrade because of this. Yeterday I heard from IT that the viewer company was bought out and updates were forth coming (hopefully).
We have another office in another state and they use it, as far as I've heard they haven't had any issues.

Just my 2 cents,

Scott

So the remote office is using it also but there is no interaction between the two?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Both offices do interact, we access the same files at the same time. Example: if I check out a assembly they cannot access it but can access the subassemblies & parts.
We also have 1 engineer who works from home/on the road a lot and he uses remote access.

Ok so it is like PDM Enterprise.  So the only downside to the system right now is that you cant use it with SW2008...

RE: Anyone using Synergis Adept PDM?

I have used this program before and the company I was working for at the time was one of the first Beta test sites. It has come a long way since then, but when we were using it with SolidWorks it seemed quite stable right off the bat. The other nice thing was that it was very easy to set-up and manage. We also had offices in Germany that we used to trade models back and forth on. It was a little slow but what do expect when trying to pull large assemblies across the world. The new features that Adept has that I did not get a chance to use look very impressive. I would definitely use a Gold certified SolidWorks product for managing the data and there are a quite a few to choose from. It all depends on your company size and needs and what features you want and will really use.

I wish the company I am working for now would have looked into this program rather than sticking us with a Pro-E product called Windchill. It gives me chills just thinking about all the problems we have had with it and how I have had to manipulate the SolidWorks processes just so we can interface with it. Windchill has the same issue with the SolidWorks version too. We are stuck with 2007 until they develop the add-in to be used with 2008. Fortunately I have my own copy of SolidWorks at home and run both 2007 and 2008.

Hopefully this is somewhat helpful to you in making your decision.

Best Regards,
Jon Knabenschuh

I used this program at a previous employer.  It was easy to use, the only problems I recall came from a lack of training, as the users were largely left to figure out most of the functionality on our own.
