Sewage line capping

Sewage line capping

I have a sanitary sewer line junction box that has 48" and 21" lines in and out. I want to cut usage the exiting 48" line. My question is can I plug it or do I need to plug the pipe, have a 10' stub-out and then cap it?

RE: Sewage line capping

Was just curious is the 48" to be permanently abandoned, or is it to be potentially utilized in the future?

It will be utilized in the future.  At the current time the direction that pipe heads is not being developed.

RE: Sewage line capping

Stub it out to beyond the limits of current pavement plus a safe slope horizontal dimension.  Then when connected, no paving replacement is needed.

Thanks, that was sort of the consensus idea among us here, but being new I figured its better to ask than to design it twice.......

RE: Sewage line capping

At least if the manhole is very deep (and might at some point be surcharged), you might want to also think about blocking the "cap".

RE: Sewage line capping

If the manhole is 15-20 feet deep or will be under pavement, you would stub the pipe out to a convenient location and plug both ends.

Thanks guys, I am sure that I will be posting more of these dumb questions in the near future.....lol
