building a dynamometer

I have a need for a dynamometer to help test performance of some small brushless motors.  The motor torque will be no more than 100oz-in but the speeds could go up to 5000rpm. I would like to build this myself with an off-the-shelf regen drive and would appreciate advice from anyone who has experience in this area.  thanks.

RE: building a dynamometer

Some motor vendors supply dc motors
with accurate ( linear )  torque vs current
specs.  One of these motors can be used as
a load generator with the output connected to
a variable load to change the torque drawn from
the motor under test. The current flowing from
the generator motor indicates the torque
applied to the test motor.
Before this is used it should be calibrated
against a known dyno.
Try   PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC
Remember to size this load motor 2X larger than
the test motors.

RE: building a dynamometer

Did you build the dynamometer?  I have the same exact need - How did it work?  What did you use, cost?

Thanks
