I would like to have inputs on the following related to NDE qualification:

As per contracts in one of our Job EN473VT Level 3 inspectors are reqquired. We have AWS CWI and CSWIP 3.1 inspectors. Are they equivalent to EN qualification?
If so are there any documents to support this/

Thanks

RE: Weling inspection qualifications

No, they are not equivalent.

The EN473 is a European document very similar to the American ASNT-TC-1A except it is required rather than suggested.

The requirements for a CWI are close to that of a Level II in EN473, but substantially below a Level III. The problem is it is difficult (and $$$) to get an EN473 Certification in the US.

You can purchase the EN473 standard and verify, my 2000 version calls for 6 years experience and 3 years of college before testing for VT Level III. Plus you must find a European Notified Body or Registered Third Party Organization to issue the certification.
