what is the Standard of large vented water tanks

what is the Standard of large vented water tanks

(OP)
Hello,

I want to ask what is the standard shall be used to design a vented tank (specifying its thickness, venting pipe diamter, ...)?

The tank dimensions is 3.6 Diameter , 5 m height
It's a water storage tank @ 20 Deg. C

Thank you

RE: what is the Standard of large vented water tanks

What material are you hoping to use?
Forbesgroup in the UK are very helpful and will be able to help size GRP / Thermoplastic tanks using BS 4994 / BS EN 12573.

Thanks for reply,

the tank shall be made of steel painted with epoxy - or lined.
I will use the standard API 650, do you agree with me ?
or there is another code more suitable for this case ?

RE: what is the Standard of large vented water tanks

It depends what country you are in and what skills the local contractors have. This is a very small tank for water supply.

There are tank manufacturers who build panel tanks with galvanised mild steel and a PE liner. These can give a design life up to 50 years. They are very competitively prioed.

RE: what is the Standard of large vented water tanks

Greg80,
You may want to look at API 12F, which is for shop fabricated tanks, but like API 650 may be an overkill for water service unless there are other service or quality requirements that you may have.

Bill

RE: what is the Standard of large vented water tanks

When you say "water storage tank" is this water for fire-fighting, domestic drinking water or some other use?  The use will probably help define what standard to use.  Also will the tank be pressurized or open to atmosphere?  API would not be my choice for a domestic drinking water tank.

Thank you all for your reply
Yes I think API 12F is a good selection, and i will check with contractors.
For vpl, I mentioned in my subject that it's a vented tank. It's not for domestic water.

Thanks to you all

RE: what is the Standard of large vented water tanks

API is OK but AWWA D100 is a better choice in my opinion for a water (aWwa) not a petroleum (aPi) tank.  They are close but AWWA is easier.
