Cam mate open extruded cut

Cam mate open extruded cut

(OP)
Sup,

New here, I have a question regarding the cam mate feature in SW. I'm trying to mate a cylinder object in a open cut in a solid. The cut is completly tangent and has a open ending in the solid.

The cylinder is suposed to be able to move freely inside the cut and stop at the cut edges. I tried with the cam mate feature but the cut needs to be  completely closed cut.

Any suggestions?...thanks

RE: Cam mate open extruded cut

What version of SW are you using?  For SW07 or older, I would create a sketch path in the slot feature, then mate the axis of the pin (or its origin) coincident with this path.  I'm not sure if the pin will follow the path completely due to the radius you have in it, so you might have to create a few different configurations to get the pin to follow the entire path.

I'm not sure if there are newer features in SW08 that will make things easier.

RE: Cam mate open extruded cut

In '08 there is a Path Mate that should get you where you need to go.  However, you may have to create two identical paths on offset planes in order to constrain cylinder properly.
