Dosing a liquefied gas chemical

Dosing a liquefied gas chemical

Dosing a liquefied gas chemical

(OP)
I am attempting to develop a new process for quickly and automatically injecting a specific amount of a pesticide into soil within an orchard replant setting.

Once it can be determined how best to configure for quickly releasing a specific dose of the chemical from its pressurized cylinder, I believe that all else will fall into place.

The chemical, Methyl Bromide (MB), flows much like a refrigerant.  MB is a liquid when contained and pressurized (typically at 50-200 psi), but quickly converts to a gas when released into the atmosphere.

The amount to be injected would vary from 4-24 fl/ozs.  The speed of release varies, depending upon the pressure and temperature of the contained chemical.  With the current manual system of injection, the chemical travels at about 1 fl/oz per second from a .5 inch ID cylinder orifice, through a .1 inch ID line.

My understanding of flow meters and pumps is primitive.  I am currently looking into positive-displacement pump information.  In any case, I can not seem to find a good fit out there for this application.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bill

a suggestion, investigate "metering pumps" via google and be sure of process conditions (flow, pressure, fluid properties, etc.) when evaluating and selecting pump (if applicable).

good luck!

Thank you for taking the time, pmover.  I have been searching "metering pumps", among other keywords, but, so far, am finding continuous feed pumps and flow meters, as compared to single dose/shot feed.

RE: Dosing a liquefied gas chemical

Bill,
It seems that a new invented is warranted?  Do you require intermittent injection or adjustable frequency (speed) of injection, hence a rotary injection pump?

I suggest you talk to a company called Lewa who can help you with a package that will include a pump and peripherals that will control the varying capacities that you require.  They are well known and leaders in their field. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Bill.

Although I didn't think it would come to this, after another day of fruitless research, I think you may be right, Bill.  I will get with Lewa and post the outcome.

Best,

Bill

RE: Dosing a liquefied gas chemical

Bill,
Thanks, I would appreciate hearing the outcome.  I don't think that your liquefied gas will be a problem for them as a common application is dispensing matural gas odourant (which is extremely volatile at ambient conditions).

Bill
