My ProE run so slow!
My ProE run so slow!
(OP)
Hi-
I have just installed ProE Wildfire 4.0 but I don't know why it seems to be slow when I try to rotate the model. It usually freezes first before it starts to rotate. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks.

What kind of graphics card does your laptop have?

Get a spec for your laptop and post it here. The chances are that the issue is one of the following.
1. Not enough RAM (min reqired for WF4 is 2GB, but to be honest you need 4)
2. Not enough CACHE being used, max it out in Virtual Memory settings
3. Not having a good enough graphics card. Min 256 needed (PTC), but 512 really necessary for any large assembly models.
If you are OK an all of the above, then you need to do something called a '3Gb switch'. I can give you the link once you have checked all the avove. The switch and its pitfalls are well detailed on MCADcentral (even a post or two by myself there after I did that)

RE: My ProE run so slow!
I would start with getting better graphics cards for both machines if possible!
Most ProE guys that I know will be using NVIDIA Quadro FX3500 or above

RE: My ProE run so slow!
Yeah I agree. I checked my computer at work that I use for pro/E and the graphic card is the NVIDIA Quadro FX3500 ! So at least I can narrow down the problem that causes it to be so slow. Thanks all...
RE: My ProE run so slow!
Note: You must set this option in the main config.pro (mine is in C:\PTC-Apps\wildfire2\text\config.pro) BEFORE you launch Wildfire
Also Google "PTC Certified drivers" for a list of approved drivers for your card.
From PTC Technical Support:
Kindly perform following tests -
1. Set the config.pro option "graphics" to "win32_gdi"
2. Run Pro/ENGINEER without any config.pro file loaded.
3. Dedicate the graphic card to Pro/ENGINEER by setting the performance properties of the graphic card. As I already informed you about Microsoft windows limitation regarding memory utilization. RE: My ProE run so slow!
right now here is one laptop that i have built and am considering:
Its a Toshiba Satellite L350-ST2121
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic 32-Bit
Office Software: Microsoft® Office 2007 Suite Ready
Memory: 2048MB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (2048MBx1)
LCD: 17.0" Diagonal Widescreen WXGA+ TruBrite® display (1440x900)
Graphics Controller: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with 128MB-358MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory
HDD: 200GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA)
For that model, that is the best graffics card that i can get.
Will this be a good laptop to run ProE on?
