SharePoint vs TeamCenter - Caveats

SharePoint vs TeamCenter - Caveats

SharePoint vs TeamCenter - Caveats

(OP)
Background -
We have been pushing to implement Teamcenter Express here due to major data control problems, which have only been getting worse since we were merged with a global corporation.
The purchase was included in this years budget, but no one wanted to actually approve it.  Now it turns out that corporate has SharePoint, and they want us to use it to control all of out data.
I am aware that TeamCenter Community<?> ties in with SharePoint, but corporate IT has nixed any form of TeamCenter until SharePoint alone is proven inadequate.

So, my question to the forum members is this:  What are the problems and limitations of using SharePoint by itself vs using it with TeamCenter?
I would like to raise any red flags before we put much more effort into this endevour only to find that we can't get the control of our NX data that we need.
