We are trying to connect a cable from a 66kV bushing to a VT bushing. The clearances to earth are considerable and so a bare uninsulated copper bar or cable would suffice. But as the installation is outdoors and coastal we thought we would offer some environmental protection for the cable and this is where I am now beginning to doubt myself.
We decided to use an 11kV length of cable, unarmoured with EPR insulation, no earth screen - primarily because it was readily available and flexible. The client is insisting on a 66kV cable. He is adamant that a 66kV cable is manufactured differently, I think he means the copper is different?
Has anyone amy view on this? Should we use a 66kV cable and remove the armour - as the client seems to want? Should we leave uninsulated and paint?

I don't like to improvise and mainly at high-voltage. If you don't need an insulation why not to use a ACSR conductor covered with HDPE or XLPE .The cable nor 11 Kv neither 66 kv is not indicated to be spanned and used without any termination [ to avoid moisture penetration ].I don't know, but partial discharges may occur, also –mainly for 11KV cable.
