Aust Steel Institute Standard Structural Connections
Aust Steel Institute Standard Structural Connections
(OP)
(I'll try asking again)
ASI in their standard bolted connections use a 65mm web cope with the first bolt 100mm down from the top flange. (This doesn't work for 200UB).
I work in the mining industry and almost all consultants use a 35mm web cope with the forst bolt 70mm down from the top flange.
Does anyone use the ASI detailing? How common is it in other industries?

RE: Aust Steel Institute Standard Structural Connections
I would say the 35/70 mm dimensions are more widely used and I can't see the advantage of the ASI standard for typical connections (and I can see some disadvantage in removing more web than necessary).
RE: Aust Steel Institute Standard Structural Connections
I would exepect that the smaller cope would be beneficial if anything.
RE: Aust Steel Institute Standard Structural Connections
You are right with the 200UB, if you provide the 65mm cope then you will only be able to use 1 bolt if you use a 35mm min edge distance, so I would definately use the 35mm cope.
Hopefully the revised connections manual will account for this.
