Triaxle asphalt dump truck load

We designed a parking garage slab which can sustain 19kPa live load for fire route and it is done. For asphalt paving dump truck weighs 35 tons. How can i find that it is not exceeding the limit of live load for slab as there are number of machinery invloved in paving.

RE: Triaxle asphalt dump truck load

This is a contractor's problem.  The laydown paver machine combined with the asphalt/dump truck is the limiting case.  Use the literature from the paver manufacturer to approximate a wheel weight for each side and a heaped weight in the center.  Add the rear axles weight for elevated truck hopper with a 1/2 load of Hot Mix Asphalt.  Approximate an area of loading and divide the maximum loads totaled by the area.  If greater than 390 psf change asphalt delivery method to either front end loader or windrow with pickup machine.  Check roller loading also since the big steel wheels can weigh ten tons and vibrate to add impulse loads.

Thanks for information. Does this consultant's job or contractor shall be responsible for all this analysis. Actually we can't supervise them doing this and this could be a liability issue.

RE: Triaxle asphalt dump truck load

NOT YOUR JOB, only the contractor can control the filling of the truck, the weight of the paver, the amount of material in one place and the spacing of the equipment.  Merely write a registered letter informing the contractor of the strength limits in the design and request a proceedure description that does not exceed the specified limits.
