Free Trial version of SWX?

Free Trial version of SWX?

Free Trial version of SWX?

(OP)
Is there any way I can aquire a free trial version of SolidWorks?

My nephew is interested in CAD and I'd like to show him the basics of the software, so I'd I only need it for a few days.

It appears SolidWorks stopped offering their "Personal Edition" trial software but I'm hoping an old version might still be floating around somewhere.

I don't care what version it is or whether or not it watermarks the files or even if it has the ability to save files.

RE: Free Trial version of SWX?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe there is a trial version available for download.  However, you can contact your local distributor/VAR (i.e. GoEngineer), and I'm sure they'd be happy to send you a trial disc.  Also, if you just want to show your nephew the basics of CAD, there are other packages that are available for download.  The one that comes to mind is Alibre Design.  The full version of the software is not free, but there is a crippled version that should be sufficient for showing CAD novices the ropes.

RE: Free Trial version of SWX?

If you purchase the Howard and Musto book, Introduction to SolidWorks Using SolidWorks 2007, it includes a download for 150-day student license.

or
students can download Autodesk Inventor Professional for free from http://engineersrule.org

The local VAR wasn't much help.  I suppose because there's no potential sale it's not worth his trouble.

I thought about the Inventor/Alibre option, but I'm very familiar with SolidWorks and trying to demo a new CAD probram will be slow and confusing.

I guess my only option is to buy the book w/the trial disk.

Thanks guys.

RE: Free Trial version of SWX?

Do you actually work with a copy of SW at work?  Are you aware of the "Home use" license?  Would that be an option for you?

RE: Free Trial version of SWX?

I forget the company that offers it but their is an Educational version that is sold with a Robot Development Kit which was shown at SolidWorks World which looked like a valuable learning tool. I believe SolidWorks will still offer Student Editions but for the PErsonal Editions that used to be handed out at 3d skills workshops thhose are being discontinued as stated previously.

Journey Ed I believe also offers student editions with prices for students or Professionals for non commercial use.
