Hydropneumatic tank sizing guidelines
Hydropneumatic tank sizing guidelines
(OP)
I'm looking for any guidelines for sizing a horizontal hydropneumatic pressure vessel for controlling the ON/OFF operation of a 1,000 gpm well pump. The hydropneumatic tank controller will turn ON the well at 40 psi and OFF at 60 psi. How do I determine the minimum volume of water that the tank needs to hold? This is for a small community of about 2,000 residents with a small college and no major industry. We do not know the water demand throughout the day. There are two other wells on the system and one elevated tank.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In general submersible motors are not supposed to be started more than 4 time per hour or 20 times per day. Also they require a minimum of a 1 minute run time after they are started. So you have to consider that when sizing a tank. Does this pump into the elevated storage.
The rules are not so limiting with turbines. But back spin becomes an issue.
It sounds like this might be a good situtation to involve an engineer.
