Fire Alarm Zones

(OP)
I have a question regarding NFPA 72 2002 section.
In the appendix A.4.4.6.1.2 section (5)
it states that the floor area shall not exceed 22,500sq.ft.
and any length of 300ft in any direction.

Then it says if it is sprinklered, the area of the zone should be permitted to coincide with the allowable area of the the sprinkler zone. Which I read as 52,000 sq.ft.

Are there any other implicit limitations?
Does the 300ft. rule still apply?
How does this impact my number of and location of things like my DGP panels etc?

roll1Thanks in advance!

RE: Fire Alarm Zones

appendix does not apply unless you adopted it
also with an addressable system each device tells you where the problem is

Also remeber what that particular section is about

You might also check the 2007 edition to see if any changes

RE: Fire Alarm Zones

That provision is no longer in the 2007 edition of NFPA 72.

RE: Fire Alarm Zones

And remember, the idea is a sprinkler system reduces the risk to building occupants by increasing the time they have to get out of a building and reduces the risk to the firefighters entering a building.  The fire alarm code recognizes this and allows for larger protection areas.

I read through 72's current version as cdafd, and came up with the same answer as stookeyfpe. I was then going to ask what is the intent of the code originally, then donphillips posted before I could ask the question.

So STARS FOR EVERYONE!
