STL Import

STL Import

Does anyone have experience with any tools/add-ins for importing STL files into SolidWorks?  I found one tool from a company called Floating Point Solutions (http://www.fpsols.com) that claims to perform this function.  I am wondering if this product works well, particularly for STL files that were sectioned by the prototyping company.  Such files probably need to be stitched shut before importing them into SolidWorks.

RE: STL Import

I was wondering the same thing...
I have some STL files that are only 1.2 MB or so and the STL importer that comes with SW can't generate a solid (only a surface)

I saw the add-in you are talking about (created in 2002???)but want to make sure it works before I buy it ($200)...

RE: STL Import

noticed that your post was from 2002
did you ever purchase the converter?

I never purchased this converter/import tool.  Does anyone have any experience with it?

RE: STL Import

I just took one of the surface files, right clicked on the the surface in the feature manager clicked diagnose and got a solid...it did not work for all the files I'm dealing with...
