Welding different Aluminium grades.

(OP)
Is it possible to weld together different grades of Aluminium. They will be structural grades and I would expect their properties to be similar.
We may be forced to use differing grades due to the limited range of structural sections.

RE: Welding different Aluminium grades.

You can weld Aluminium, but the ADM specifies which grades of Al could be welded to each other. You can refer to the code for more information. Welding Al will reduce their design stress to great extent, there are tables which will help you.

RE: Welding different Aluminium grades.

There is also a chart that specifies which filler metals are appropriate for welding different alloys together.
