Draft v20 - free version - and visual basic

Draft v20 - free version - and visual basic

Draft v20 - free version - and visual basic

(OP)
Hi, I will want to open drafts files in draft v20 - free version- and save them as pdf using visual basic routines to automate the job. Does draft - free version - can be operated from visual basic?
Grazie,
Stefano

RE: Draft v20 - free version - and visual basic

Hi,

no, because there is no applications interface (API).

Try running the existing Batch.exe in
c:\Program Files\Solid Edge Vxx\Custom\Batch (if you have it)
If it doesn't work then Don is correct (as he usually is) and you can't do it.
However, if it does work I have a modified version that will save as pdf.
Can you save as pdf when you open files individually ?
If not then you could always download a free pdf 'printer' that does the same job.
I've used one called PDF995 www.pdf995.com

RE: Draft v20 - free version - and visual basic

Hi,

the standalone Drafting comes in two flavours. The free one does not
have the API the other version is the one that can be installed
from your V20 DVD which implies that you have a valid V20 license.
The installation is the same as the Solid Edge installation, except
you run it with a 'solidedge2ddraftingm' license file. This one has
the  API but it is limited to Draft files and only 2D drafting objects(!).
(service packs and GTAC support is available too).
The pricing is approx. 400$ (US Price) and can be ordered from your reseller.

Hi, thanks for the answers. (I have got SE v19 and I wrote some vb routines to search drafts files, open and save them as pdf. Now I wanted to use this routines with SE draft v20 installed on a different pc)

Hi Stefano,
Just try them, and please let us know if they work.

Hi,
the routines do not work with the free version. I have contacted our reseller (Italy) but the price for the commercial draft V19 is euro 2780. For donyoung: can you confirm the approx. price of $400? Maybe it is a version not available in Italy?. I would buy it at that price.

RE: Draft v20 - free version - and visual basic

Stefano,

The new 'Maintenance version of Solid Edge 2D Drafting'
I did mention requires that you have a full SE license(!) because
it will be installed like the full version. It will, however
run with a different license. This version carries a price tag
of approx. 400$/year.

What your reseller did offer is the 'Design and Drafting'
which is a 'lite' version of SE so to speak. It will include
limited 3D functionality along with drafting. This is the
lowest entry to get API functionality if you do not own
a full SE version already. 'Design and Drafting' can be
upgraded to a full version.

So may I use the same solid edge dvd I have got to install SE on a second pc and run it with a different license ($400)?

Stefano,

yes, that's right. It just has different license which cost
you the said amount and it should be available in Italy
too. The price in EUR will, however not reflect the current
exchange rate winky smile
