24 oz. insulated coffee mug

RE: Productivity Peripherals

Plain old Logitech SpaceBall and a Yamaha sound system...I'd like to get an ergo keyboard to make the hotkey uses a little quicker...and maybe a beer wench would be nice.

I have the spaceball but getting it to work with XP and SW08 is a mission so I just gave up and upgraded to the newer models.

Logitech MX Revolution
Logitech G11 keyboard (with quick macros assigned for all common programs)
Logitech (3Dconnexion) SpacePilot
combo'd with a Dell 3400T and dual 19" LCD's and it's the dream machine of the department.

But who knows what fun widgets the future holds.

3Dconnexion SpacePilot
Logitech DiNovo bluetooth keyboard & numberpad (I know, form over function isn't very engineer-like, but it's pretty and I like it)
Logitech MX1000 bluetooth rechargeable mouse(I don't particularly like the Revolution's flywheel)
HP 24" main lcd
NEC 20" slide lcd
foot rest
bright sky light that makes me sleepy everyday about 2pm

I need a skylight. I wonder if management would be upset if I came in on Saturday with a reciprocating saw and good intentions...

Definitely a lot better than a reciprocating saw and bad intentions.

... and definitely much better than coming in on a weekday with a chainsaw!

Last Friday and today there have been thunderstorms and a few power outages so I've been reminded how much I appreciate my APC PowerChute.

Also, Capresso Espresso maker is nice. Oh, and our office is located in a suite under a microbrewery.

RE: Productivity Peripherals

I found out my surge suppressor works (well, it did work) in stopping lightning-based surges from hitting my system.  Last summer a close strike literally exploded the router/DSL modem on my desk and took out an Ethernet port on my main board (smelled nice, too).  After that I routed my DSL line through a surge suppressor.  A couple of weeks ago another lightning bolt apparently sent a surge in our lines--the DSL modem was fine, but stopped receiving a signal.  Ended up the suppressor took the hit (and fried) that part of the suppressor, so I just purchased four more cheap ($4) at Amazon.  Might be a touchy summer season...

RE: Productivity Peripherals

Fortunately surges don't travel through wireless.

I worked at a stamping plant with frequent violent surges caused by large machines starting.  Even coffee pots weren't safe.  One morning I came in to find four surge suppressors fried.  Smelled like French roast!

RE: Productivity Peripherals

The surge suppression is important but the UPS really pays off too. The few seconds it takes to save and shut down during a power loss is equal to a productivity gain to me. Between the storms, the construction crew working on the building and the city crews down the street I never know when the lights will go out.

I would like to see 3D Connexion come up with a wireless Space Explorer.

RE: Productivity Peripherals

Or a SpacePilot with a button so you can play Space invaders on the little LCD screen. Now that would be productive.

Fountain coke machine.  I like my caffine cold and carbonated.

RE: Productivity Peripherals

At work I use a Razor Copperhead gaming mouse, and occasionally a Space navigator. At home it's usually a Logitech thumb roller ball, or another razor mouse. And now the space navigator is at home to use with google earth. I've also used a graphics tablet, but I'm so used to control with the mouse that the graphics tablet isn't too productive for me with cad. It works better just with GIMP and Inkscape.

My work only provides a standard MS mouse, so I buy my own. The work mouse gets confused between the two monitors and unexpectedly jumps into the corners. I've never had a problem with the Razor mice doing that, but sometimes the programmable buttons stop working.

Oh, and of course, large mello yellow and breakfast burritos (a #10) to start the day.
