Modelling arch bridges in HEC-RAS

Modelling arch bridges in HEC-RAS

Modelling arch bridges in HEC-RAS

(OP)
Hi!
I´m trying to introduce an arc bridge (roman bridge type) into my model in HEC-RAS, and I cannot represent it using the deck/roadway data editor from the software. I have heard that one possible solution it would be to use culverts in order to simulate the arcs, but in my case this couldn´t be possible because the culverts would have a part inside the ground...
Does anyone know any solution to simulate this kind of structures??
Thanx in advance
Alfonso

RE: Modelling arch bridges in HEC-RAS

You can simulate an arch culvert which is partly "buried" in HEC-RAS. See the Hydraulic Reference Manual for HEC-RAS 4.0, Chapter 6, Figure 6-11.

good luck

...yes this of the culver was one of my first options, but because the bridge has a part with a high slope, the culvert, even if has a buried part is going to have an open part inside the ground...so...iñm looking for a more conviniente way to simulate...

Unless you are trying to play some sort of game like what is the maximum amount of flow I can get to go under my bridge while submerging the low chord, than be conservative and just enter the elevation of the low chord on either side of the river and model as an ordinary bridge.  Design the bridge high / wide enough so the 100-year storm (or larger) goes under the low chord of the bridge with freeboard.

HECRAS input can handle arch culverts.  You need to code the height and span.  I would use that.
