Essential boundary condition on shell elements

Essential boundary condition on shell elements

Essential boundary condition on shell elements

(OP)
With some valuable advise from this forum I have been able to offset the shell element and place it on a solid thermal element using.

ET,1,SHELL131

sectype,1,shell
SECDATA,0.05, 2, 0, 3
secoffset,bot
aatt,1,,1,,1

asel,s,loc,y,1
amesh,all

I am trying to apply essential boundary condition (temperature using D) to the top surface of the shell element. If I try to select the nodes on top surface of shell element using the nsel,s,loc,y,1.05 I do not see any nodes selected.

Can some help me in applying essential boundary condition at top shell surface?

Regards
Harry

RE: Essential boundary condition on shell elements

Shells only have one node through the thickness.  Select the appropriate nodes associated with the shell element and use the D command with the appropriate temperature DOF specified...TBOT (shell bottom), TTOP (shell top), etc.
