ASME Code Supplements

(OP)
Hi folks,

I am presently working to the 2007 versions of ASME VIII Div 1 and material codes IIA. I have been approached by a client with a specification that asks us to meet supplements beyond thaose contained in the current code. For example, they would like us to supply forgings to ASME SA 105 and meet supplement S8 - the current code only lists up to supplement S7.

Is there a website or ASME reference source for supplements that are additional or have been developed since the code was issued.

Many thanks for your help

RE: ASME Code Supplements

Ask your client to be more specific about supplement S8 and tell him what you were willing to anonymously tell an internet group. Nothing wrong with communicating with your client.

RE: ASME Code Supplements

Shellandtubes,

Your client probably requires your forging to meet the vacuum degassing requirements (Supplementary S8) of SA-788 Specification for Steel Forgings, General Requirements.

As jte had said, talk to your client and clarify.

RE: ASME Code Supplements

I could tell you what S8 states in the 88 Addenda of Section II Part A for SA-105, but then how would that help you if I do not know what "Year of Issue" the customer is deriving his S8 specification supplement?

Each specification has a year of issue and thus the reason for jte's remark.

RE: ASME Code Supplements

Wow. I can tell you there is a Supplement 8 in the 98 Edition of SA 105. This has nothing to do with degassing, it has to do with repair welding. Go back and ask your client because you can see the range of answers based on the Edition of the ASTM Specification that was endorsed by Section II!

RE: ASME Code Supplements

Metengr,

Exactly what I was thinking!

I did not want to indicate this in my earlier post because I believe would be silly to review each and every edition/Addenda of SA-105 to figure out what the client is looking for.
