SWX 2009

SWX 2009

(OP)
Anyone hear anything on 2009? Just wondering if any enhancements were leaked.

RE: SWX 2009

They finally add equation driven curves.  Naturally, they did a half-@$$ job of it.  Can only do y=f(x).

Another five years and they'll catch up to where Pro/E was 10 years ago.

RE: SWX 2009

I don't see much improvements. Some new stuff, but not enough for me to run out and buy it.
Their marketing people need to open their eyes to what Autodesk is doing.

RE: SWX 2009

I think the bulk of the work on '09 was to increase the functionality of the features that already exist, rather than adding a bunch of poorly though-out, bug-filled, rushed-in, grabasstically-disorganized things that end up wasting my time in the end.  So, I'm kinda looking forward to the new release.

RE: SWX 2009

They have opened their eyes--and are a bit frantic about it.  I think we'll see 2009 as a sort of space-filler (with hope that we'll have some stability and robust features added) while the next version gears up to address competitive threats.  Of course, they're a bit late.  Autodesk can instantly deliver simply by buying what they like and relabeling it (see their purchase of Alias in the ID realm).  I don't see SW doing anything like that.

The near future will certainly be exciting, if nothing else.  Hey, if you stop paying maintenance contracts and instead save the money (sticking with your current SW version) about three years will pay for a completely different CAD package--not a bad hedge, considering I've never even installed 2008.

RE: SWX 2009

I notice that aside from name changes they appear to have left both PDM products completely alone.

Now if only I believed that....

RE: SWX 2009

The availability of the "2009 What's New" was probably a slip-up by SW. I doubt they would appreciate it being posted for public display while 2009 is still in Beta.

If you sign up for the Beta program, you will have access to the document and Beta forum.

RE: SWX 2009

P'raps it was a leak, then?  I did see some interface things I'll like, as well as the capacity to reverse dimensions with negative values (can save me some time).

Gotta say, 'twasn't me who found it.  I saw it posted elsewhere.

I love the negative / reverse dimensions. That was ONE nice feature Pro/E had.  The speedpak looks pretty cool as well.

RE: SWX 2009

Spoke with my VAR on an unrelated matter. Nobody in his organization has seen that PDF yet, so I'm really leaning toward a leak.

RE: SWX 2009

Tell them you'll sell it to them, but they'll have to pay a maintenance fee afterwardssmile.

I think the Sensors look like something that could be useful.

I have Acrobat Pro. Lets modify first with the stuff we want, then sell it to them. bigsmile

And they'll have to pay a reinstatement fee beforehand, just to get in line to pay the maintenance fee.  Wow, this gets a bit thrilling and addicting once you get used to being on this end of the stick...
