Elbow thickness calculation

Elbow thickness calculation

Elbow thickness calculation

(OP)
Dear colleages:

At this moment, i'm making an elbow thickness calculation.
Material carbon steel, pressure 6 barg , NPS 10 inch, this data is only for reference not relevant.

I don't wanna use shell calculation because i consider that it should be corrected using radius of curvature, etc. I was looking for formules in code but my searching was an iddle time. Does any colleague know which is the adequated formula for to determine elbow thickness?

Your promptly answer will be very appreciated.

Best Regards

Luike

RE: Elbow thickness calculation

luike,
       Why are you messing about calculating elbow wall thickness? If you look at the piping codes as long as the elbows (to ASME B16.9) are specified with the same thickness as straight pipe then end of story.

Thanks for your promptly answer:

I understand this point but another codes make correction due to radius, i know that it will be very important to take in account 12.5% thickness due to tolerance.

Due to this , i just want to compare another experience but i'll follow your advise.

Once again , thanks.

For pressure vessels designed to ASME Section VIII Division 1 see UG-44.

RE: Elbow thickness calculation

For elbow thickness calculation refer to ASME B31.3 section 304.2.1. It takes into account diameter and radius.

Thickness 't' excluding tolerance and corrosion:

t= PD / {2[(SEW/I) + PY]}

Intrados:

I= {4(R1/D) − 1} / {4(R1/D) − 2}

Extrados:

I = {4(R1/D) + 1} / {4(R1/D) + 2}
