Elongation / Strain difference between Different Reo Grades

Elongation / Strain difference between Different Reo Grades

Elongation / Strain difference between Different Reo Grades

(OP)
G'day!

Im chasing some properties for G250 and G500 reinforcing bars.

Query:
1.) Is there a difference in the strain for G250 (fy=250MPa) and G500 (Fy = 500MPa)? If so what are the values?

2.) How about the coefficient of thermal expansion?

Hoping anyone can assist or point me to the right book or website.

Cheers!

RE: Elongation / Strain difference between Different Reo Grades

No, the Youngs Modulus (Modulus of Elasticity) remains the same regardless of the steel grade. It follows therefore that keeping stress and cross sectional area constant, the bars will have exhibit similar stains provided yield stress is not reached in the weaker (250N/mm sq.) bar.

The coefficient of linear expansion will also in my opinion be of a similar value

RE: Elongation / Strain difference between Different Reo Grades

parrot77 is correct though to clarify, the strain at yield for the 500MPa bar will be twice as much as that for the 250.

Any basic concrete textbook should give you this.
