Can circuit switcher interrupt the fault current?
Can circuit switcher interrupt the fault current?
(OP)
I know there are some threads talking about circuit switchers. But what the problems is that our Chief engineer said CS is not designed to interrupt fault currents therefore, can not be used to clear a fault which I believe it is B.S.
Since we have a 66kV line from a system substation A (230/66kV)connecting to a 66kV substation B(66/25kV) - a transformer with a high side CS and low side a 25kV CB to drop the transformer during a transformer fault and if the fault current is to be beyond the CSs rating then the protection will close a 66kV ground switch and trip substation A side CBS of the 66kV line.
What I know is that CS can interrupt the fault current but with lower interrupting rating compare to the CBs. Can anybody give some specific interrupting ratings of CSs on 66/69kV level?
Thanks in Advance!

RE: Can circuit switcher interrupt the fault current?
The following file from S&C Electric gives ratings for a C/S at the voltage level you indicated. You can also take a look at their website for more specific applications.
