Hard Anodising galling

Hard Anodising galling

Hard Anodising galling

If i hard anodize a small eg, 3/4 inch barrel and also the housing it rotates in, will they be prone to galling?  same alloys.  Fit is not critical, as long as there free to turn easily.  Will be subject to vibration and fuel oil mixture.

Was told it couldnt be done, so
i went and did it!

RE: Hard Anodising galling

If you have a clearance and fuel/oil mixture, then I don't think you will have problems.  Any estimate for a surface pressure between the parts?

Cory

Cory, no real pressure involved.  Its for RC engine carbys.

Its common knowledge that 2 similar metals can gall, and Aluminium can be very bad.   I have no idea with Anodised parts tho.

Vibration is the biggest thing, cant balance a single cylinder, and at up to 30,000 rpm, these things vibrate like mad.

Standard steel barrels in Al housings have been known to gall with what seems like plenty of clearance.

RE: Hard Anodising galling

With hard anodize, you don't have metal to metal. You have ceramic to ceramic. So, you are not in a classic galling situation.
