SW 2006 smart dimensioning
SW 2006 smart dimensioning
(OP)
I'm just learning Solidworks (and loving it). I'm doing a self-taught program because I don't know anyone that does have it. Basically, I'm going through the tutorials that come with Solidworks (much better then Inventor's).
When I'm use the "smart dimension" and double click to change the dimension, I get the "dimension properties" dialog, not the modify dimension dialog. I HAVE checked and unchecked the box for "input dimension value" in the options menu. I don't get the modify dialog either way.
I HAVE searched the forum and the FAQ on eng-tips but have not found my answer. I've also searched google.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to re-install?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Snowboy

I looked and I could not find "instant 3D" in Solidworks. I checked the help file and it said that the toolbar associated with that tool is only available if I installed Solidworks Office Premium or Professional. I do not have either of those versions installed.
Thanks for your help.

I have SW08-SP3.0 Office (basic package) and Instant 3D is available under the Features toolbar.

snowboy: Are these dimensions inside a sketch? If the dimension is not a driving dimension it will bring up the Properties dialog by default because you can't edit a reference dimension or a driven dimension. If you right-click the dim is there a checkmark beside "Driven"?

Thanks for you help. I could not find that it was a driven dimension. I think I figured out the problem. I was trying to dimension a hole that I had extruded through the material. I then deleted the hole and dimensioned it in the sketch. Then it worked.
I guess I missed the fact that I couldn't use smart dimensioning to move entities after they have been extruded. I must have missed that in the tutorial.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks! I must have missed that or forgotten it. It's starting to come together a bit more now.
I'm evaluating Solidworks for my company. In doing so, I'm really beginning to like the product and the community.
Don't be surprised if you see some more noobie questions from me.
Thanks again (everyone),
