1980 Comutacar series DC motor, A2 brush damaged

1980 Comutacar series DC motor, A2 brush damaged

(OP)
Hi, First time I've ever done anything like this, so please forgive my short comings. I tried to search for something like my problem, but couldn't find anything.

I have a 1980 Vanguard Comutacar with a 6hp series wound dc motor. The car runs ok if I stay in first and second. It runs awhile in third, but if ran more than a few minutes, the brush wire on A2 melts. The motor is pretty warm if not hot. After replacing the brush, I've jacked up the rearend and measured the voltage at the forward/reverse relay and get 24v for first and second, 50v for third. This is the same as measuring at A1/A2. Everything seems to be wired as per the book I have on it. I don't know what to check or how to correct the problem. Let me know if you need more info, or how to test something that would help determine the problem. Thanks in advance for any help .

Thanks, Bill. The pictures won't load. I've just been told that it could be the field coils in the motor. That I'd need to take it to a shop. They couldn't tell me how they test the motor, just if it were them, thats what they would do.
